What's New?

We are pleased to once again announce that we will be offering a third start date for our program. Our May start is in response to requests from students enrolled in other post-secondary institutions who want to move to AMI. The May program start allows for students to get a solid introduction to our program while still having a 6 week summer break. In many cases students find this far more preferable than waiting four months to start our program. Please note the May class is subject to a minimum class size.

AMI students are broadcasting live play-by-play of all Halifax Wolverines Junior A hockey games from the Halifax Forum. The College and students were the focus of national media coverage of a recent brawl involving the Halifax Wolverines and the Summerside Western Capitals. Our students had the exclusive video footage of the incident and this was the lead on CTV and Global news. Extensive coverage was also carried on TSN and newspapers across the country; a shining example of students “learning by doing.” Students are also covering the Halifax Mooseheads, University hockey (webcasting of most Saint Marys University Huskies home games) and basketball in Halifax.

Recent graduates are now employed across Canada at media outlets including K-Rock radio in Charlottetown, CHAT-TV in Medicine Hat, AB, CHCM radio in Marystown, NL, Global TV in Halifax, News 95.7 radio Halifax, Z103.5 Halifax, Skywords Traffic, The Hawk in Port Hawkesbury, MYFM in Pembroke, ON, CJDC-TV in Dawson Creek, BC and a new station called “The Goat” in Bonnyville, AB. We are thrilled to announce that within 4 weeks of graduation 87% of our students are employed in the media, with over 90% of these positions being full-time.

AMI President Garry Barker recently concluded a consultancy for Sun Country Cablevision of Salmon Arm, BC in their application for a new FM radio licence for Kelowna, BC. AMI Vice-President Troy Michaels, along with students, has covered national press conferences with Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Defence Minister Peter MacKay and others for Media Q in Ottawa, and AMI instructor Renee Stevens is continuing her coverage of the South Shore for the Chronicle Herald. All instructors keep up-to-date on the media by continued involvement in the industry.
